POSITION SUMMARY:
The Handyman is a skilled, versatile trades professional responsible for performing a wide range of general maintenance, repair, and improvement tasks across Short Term Rental properties in the Poconos. This full-time role requires hands-on expertise in multiple trades — including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general repairs — combined with a customer-focused attitude and strong attention to detail. The Handyman works independently and as part of a team to complete work orders efficiently, safely, and to a high standard of quality.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Maintenance & Repairs
Perform a broad range of maintenance and repair tasks including carpentry, drywall patching, caulking, painting, and weatherproofing.
Complete minor plumbing repairs such as fixing leaks, replacing fixtures, unclogging drains, and repairing or replacing toilets and faucets.
Perform basic electrical tasks including replacing outlets, switches, light fixtures, and ceiling fans in compliance with applicable codes.
Install, repair, and replace doors, windows, locks, hardware, trim, molding, and cabinetry.
Assemble furniture, shelving, and prefabricated fixtures as needed.
Diagnose and troubleshoot maintenance issues and determine appropriate repair methods.
Property & Facility Upkeep
Conduct routine property walkthroughs and preventive maintenance inspections to identify issues before they escalate.
Maintain exterior areas including decks, fences, walkways, gutters, and drainage systems.
Perform touch-up painting, pressure washing, and general cleaning of facilities as needed.
Respond to and prioritize urgent repair requests in a timely and professional manner.
Coordinate with clients or property managers to schedule and complete work with minimal disruption.
Tools, Materials & Safety
Safely operate a full range of hand and power tools appropriate to each task.
Maintain personal tools and company-issued equipment in clean, safe, and working condition.
Follow all workplace safety protocols, OSHA guidelines, and company safety policies on every job site.
Wear appropriate PPE at all times and adhere to all safety requirements specific to each task.
Report any unsafe conditions, accidents, or near-misses to the supervisor immediately.
Documentation & Communication
Review work orders prior to each job and confirm scope, materials, and expectations with the supervisor or client.
Document completed work accurately, including materials used, time on site, and any issues encountered.
Communicate job status updates and completion reports to the Lead Field Supervisor or dispatcher.
Maintain a professional, courteous demeanor with all clients, property managers, and team members.
Flag any scope-of-work changes, additional repairs needed, or follow-up items discovered on-site.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
Minimum 2–4 years of hands-on experience in general maintenance, construction, or a related trades field.
Demonstrated proficiency across multiple trades including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting.
Ability to read and interpret work orders, basic blueprints, and repair specifications.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively across multiple jobs.
Knowledge of workplace safety practices and applicable OSHA standards.
Effective verbal communication skills; ability to interact professionally with clients and team members.
Proficiency with basic digital tools for reviewing work orders, timekeeping, and reporting (smartphone/tablet apps).
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; ability to operate company vehicles.
High school diploma or GED required.
Preferred:
Trade-specific certifications or licenses (e.g., electrician apprentice, plumber, HVAC).
OSHA 10 certification or willingness to obtain.
Experience in residential property maintenance, apartment turnover, or facilities management.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
Associate’s degree or vocational training in a construction or trade-related program.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The Handyman must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. The role requires:
Ability to lift, carry, and move materials and equipment up to 50 lbs. regularly; heavier loads with assistance or mechanical aids.
Extended periods of standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, and working in varied indoor and outdoor environments.
Ability to climb ladders and work at heights of up to 20 feet safely.
Work in confined spaces, attics, crawlspaces, and other physically demanding conditions as required.
Manual dexterity and fine motor skills for precision tool use.
Exposure to outdoor weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and humidity.
Clear vision (corrected or uncorrected) to inspect work and operate tools safely.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This is a field-based position requiring daily travel between job sites. Work is performed in residential, commercial, and mixed-use properties in varying environmental conditions. Schedule is primarily Monday through Friday; occasional evenings or Saturday work may be required to meet demands. Some job sites may require special access, safety equipment, or coordination with property managers or tenants.
